Calling the Directions
A potent way to open and close Sacred space - from the teachings of the Munay Ki

Calling to the Directions from the teachings of the Munay Ki - co-created by Alberto Viloldo.
This is a practice that calls to the archetypal energies of the four directions (south, west, north & east) as they are seen by the Inca/Peruvian Shamans of the Andes who are the last descendants of the Laika - an ancient civilisation said to have had luminous bodies likened to Angels, who travelled from the Bering Strait to South America many years ago bringing their ancient traditions and Sacred ways with them.
This is a beautiful practice that you can use and ‘play with’ incorporating instruments, using your voices, feeling for responses from the directions you call to and much more.
You’ll need a rattle or drum and an awareness of the directions.
You begin by facing the direction in which you most closely live - for us here it is the South.
Take a breath and a moment to bring your full awareness to your practice of opening Sacred Space, bring yourself fully into the moment.
Then with a rattle or drum you use the sound of the instrument to call to the winds (and spirits) of the direction
You then read the words below for the first direction (south) for opening the Sacred Space
When you have read the words you can pause and feel for any response or awareness of your words being received
Use your instrument again towards the direction
Turn to face the next direction and repeat.
For calling to the Earth and Great Spirit there is no need for a rattle or any instrument - their energy is different and simply placing your hands towards them or even touching the floor when you connect with the Earth is all that is needed.
Opening Sacred Space
To the winds of the South, Great Serpent.
Wrap coils of light around us.
Teach us to shed the past the way you shed your skin, to walk softly on the earth.
Show us the beauty way.
Ah Ho
To the winds of the West, Mother Jaguar.
Protect our medicine space.
Teach us the way of peace, to live impeccably.
Show us the way beyond death.
Ah Ho
To the winds of the North, Hummingbird, Grandmothers and Grandfathers, Ancient ones.
Come and warm your hands by our fires, whisper to us in the wind.
We honour you who have come before us and you who will come after us,
Our children’s, children.
Ah Ho
To the winds of the East, Great Eagle, Condor
Come to us from the place of the Rising sun, keep us under your wing.
Show us the mountains we only dare to dream of.
Teach us to fly wing to wing with the great spirit.
Ah Ho
Mother Earth, we have gathered for the healing of all your children;
The stone people, the plant people, the four legged, the two legged, the creepy crawlers,
The finned, the furred and the winged ones
All our relations
Ah Ho
Father sun, Grandmother moon and to the Star Nations. Great Spirit;
You who are known by a thousand names and you who are the unnameable one.
Thank you for bringing us together and allowing us to sing the song of life.
Ah Ho
